The local football club of the city is NK Bosna.
The city is home to the KTK Leather Company, which is the largest leather company in the country.
Visoko was a center of the Bosnian Church with the bishop placed in Biskupici area 4 km away from Visoko. The name Visoko is a new name for the town, old name was Visoki, and it means "high place" because the king's town was on top of the nearby montain Visočica. Urban city is located below, and named Podvisoki ("under the high").
All trade from Visoko to Dubrovnik was starting in Podvisoki: salt from Soli (now Tuzla), iron from Vareš and leather from Visoko.
In October 2005, archaeologist Semir Osmanagić announced that the hill of Visočica conceals a Pyramid 100 metres high and perhaps 12,000 years old ,. If confirmed, this would be the oldest pyramid in Europe.
