Vercelli is placed in the <a href="Po River">Pianura Padana</a>, between <a href="Milan">Milan</a> and <a href="Turin">Turin</a>. Vercelli is an important centre for the cultivation of <a href="Rice">Rice</a>, and is surrounded by rice fields, which are flooded in summer. In the province there are many other interesting places, especially in Valsesia.<p>Vercelli has several medieval monuments. St. Andrew Basilica is a remarkable example of <a href="Gothic architecture">gotic</a> and <a href="Romanesque architecture">romanesque</a> architecture. St Eusebius Cathedral houses several art works. The Cathedral Library houses the famous <a href="Vercelli Book">Vercelli Book</a>, an Old English manuscript.<p>Vercelli houses the University of Literature and a detached seat of the <a href="Politecnico di Torino">Politecnico di Torino</a>.<p>The typical plate is rice with beans, called panissa.
