Tendring
Tendring hundred is named after the Tendering Tribe which populated that part of Essex round the time of the Roman conquest of Britain. During the English Civil War, the witch-finder general, Matthew Hopkins, carried out many trials throughout this and the surrounding area. Especially in the Towns of Manningtree and Mistley on the River Stour. The actual village of Tendring has a population of less than 1000.
