Tavisupleba"Tavisupleba" (in Georgian თავისუფლება) is the new National anthem of Georgia. The title means "Freedom". HistoryThe new Georgian anthem was adopted on 23 April 2004, exactly 5 months after the resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze (former Soviet Foreign Minister)."Tavisupleba" succeeds the old anthem Dideba zetsit kurtheuls, adopted after Georgia's independence from the Soviet Union. The lyrics are by Davit Maghradze (დავით მაღრაძე), music by Zakaria Paliashvili (ზაქარია ფალიაშვილი). The music and lyrics were adapted into an anthem by Ioseb Kechakmadze (იოსებ კეჭაყმაძე). LyricsLyrics (in Georgian):
TransliterationThe following is a reasonably accurate, though unscientific, transliteration. It does not fully account for the complex Georgian consonants.
