Steve Laffey

Steve Laffey is the current Mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island. He is also currently seeking the Republican Nomination to challenge Liberal Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee. Laffey's strategy so far has been to criticize both parties for the problems in Washington. His website says he wants to eliminate pork barrel spending, simplify the tax code, and reduce prescription drug costs. He announced his intention to run for U.S Senate in 2006 in September of 2005. Should he defeat Chafee in the Republican Primary he will face either Rhode Island Secretary of State Matt Brown or former State Attorney General Sheldon Whitehouse. Currently Whitehouse looks to be the likely leader for the Democratic Nomination.
