It was established in <a href="1974 in South Africa">1974</a> on land scheduled to be incororated into a <a href="Bantustan">Bantustan</a> bordering on Mabopane in <a href="Bophuthatswana">Bophuthatswana</a>, to <a href="Basotho"><b>So</b>tho</a>, <a href="Shangaan"><b>Sha</b>ngaan</a>, <a href="Nguni"><b>Ngu</b>ni</a> and <a href="Venda"><b>Ve</b>nda</a> people (thus the name) who were resettled from <a href="Atteridgeville">Atteridgeville</a> and <a href="Mamelodi, Gauteng">Mamelodi</a>.
