A <b>planula</b> is the free-swimming, flattened, <a href="Cilium">ciliated</a>, <a href="Bilateral symmetry">bilaterally symmetrical</a> <a href="Larva">Larva</a> of a <a href="Hydrozoa">hydrozoan</a> <a href="Cnidaria">cnidarian</a>. It navigates through the water until it reaches a hard substrate where it anchors and grows into a <a href="Polyp">Polyp</a>. Planulas are unable to feed themselves.
