Northeast

Northeast is the ordinal direction halfway between North and East. It is the opposite of Southwest. See Boxing the compass.

The term "northeast" is often used by itself to refer to the northeastern sector of a geographic area, or for entities based in such a region. Some examples include:

• the northeastern United States
• the Northeast quadrant of Washington, DC
• the Northeast Division of the National Hockey League
• Northeast China, or Manchuria
• the Northeast Region of Brazil
