In Greek mythology, the Keres (sing: "ker") were daughters of Erebus and Nyx. They are black, winged spirits of death and doom, vengeful spirits of the dead. During the festival known as Anthesteria, the Keres were driven away. Their Roman equivalent was Letum or Tenebrae.
