He and co-star Kel Mitchell had their own spin-off Kenan & Kel which ran 1996 to 1999. He was also the host of the second season of Nickelodeon's animation showcase Oh Yeah! Cartoons.
As of 2003, Thompson is a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live, making him the first All That graduate to appear on SNL. Thompson is also the first SNL cast member to have been born after SNL premiered in 1975.
Thompson has starred in two movies: Good Burger (1997), based on the All That sketch of the same name, playing Dexter Reed, and Fat Albert (2004), in which he played the title character.

- He was the star of the 2004 film
Fat Albert, which also featured the creator of the character, Bill Cosby. Kenan is noted for his impersonation of Bill Cosby, even speaking like him when not'' impersonating him. - In England there was a rumour amongst fans of Kenan and Kel that due to the shows cancellation Kenan had died in a car accident. However proof him (and Kel) being alive dismissed the rumours.
