The Kaiserstuhl is a small group of hills of mostly volcanic origin in the Upper Rhine Valley in southwest Germany, northwest of Freiburg. The highest elevation is the Totenkopf with 557 meters. The Kaiserstuhl features one of the warmest climates in Germany. This and the good soil make it an excellent wine growing region. The area is also home to many rare species of plants and animals.
