Category="Paleontology"Ichnology is the branch of Paleontology dealing with the study of trace fossils: footprints, tracks and burrows. Sometimes, if the traces can't be related to a fossil species in a parsimonious way, a new species is erected. Such species are called ichnospecies.
Examples
- Late Cambrian trace fossils from intertidal settings include Protichnites and Climactichnites, amongst others.
