Glalie
Glalie is a fictional species from the Pokémon franchise. It shares physical similarities with a Hockey goalie's mask as well as with Onigiri. Name originGlalie (oniglali in French, ??? in German) is likely a Portmanteau of Glacier and goalie. Its Japanese name is a combination of 鬼 (oni), demon, and 氷 (kōri), ice. Its name could also be a Pun on お握り (onigiri), rice ball, to which it has a slight resemblance. It could also be oni goalie, or demon goalie.BiologyGlalie's body is made of rock and covered with an armor layer of unmeltable ice. Glalie has the ability to freely control moisture particles in the air around it and to create ice instantaneously from them. It uses this when hunting to create a block of ice around its prey. It then proceeds to consume the prey in a leisurely fashion.AvailabilityGlalie has never been found in the wild. It can be evolved from Snorunt, which are found only in Shoal Cave in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. In the Video GamesGlalie is one of only three pure ice-type Pokemon in the franchise (the others are Snorunt and Regice. All its identical stats seem average, so its usage in competitive play seems to be for the sake of novelty.Anime appearancesIn the Pokémon anime, Ash Ketchum has a Glalie while in Hoenn. It evolved from his Snorunt during Episode 400, Deciding Match! Grand Festival!!. He keeps it throughout the season, and uses it multiple times, including battles in Episode 402, EverGrande City Arrival! Meowth in Boots!?!, and Episode 405, To The Tournament Finals! Heated Battles Every Day!!. Later, he leaves it at Professor Oak's lab upon returning from Hoenn. In the Trading Card GameGlalie has made two appearances on cards, both as stage 1 water-types:
